2026-Jun. Spotlight: Alfred Samura


Introducing Dr. Alfred Thunty Samura, a dedicated medical professional with a remarkable educational journey.


He began his studies at the Sierra Leone Grammar School after completing a year at Bo Government Secondary School. Following his graduation, he enrolled at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences in Freetown, where he completed four years of rigorous medical training.


After relocating to the United States, Dr. Samura successfully passed the Certified Nursing Assistant and then the Licensed Practical Nurse Training Board exam. His academic accomplishments include an Associate Degree from Community College of Philadelphia, a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee.


Dr. Samura completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Texas in Houston and further specialized as an Interventional Cardiologist at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. He is currently a licensed Interventional Cardiologist practicing in the state of Delaware.




 
 

The Sierra Leone Grammar School was founded on 25th March 1845 as Church Missionary Society (C.M.S.) Grammar School - the first secondary school in Sub-Saharan Africa. The school started with 14 pupils, drawn from students of Fourah Bay College and was housed at Regent Square in a massive building which still exists.
